The Rock the Bulb Tour
The
Rock the Bulb tour included 32 weekend bulb exchange events for PSE
residential electric customers at select Lowe’s and Ace Hardware
stores. Customers could exchange up to 10 incandescent bulbs for FREE
energy-saving CFL bulbs in a variety of styles and sizes. The events
had a fun, family-friendly music festival-like atmosphere. Participants
enjoyed music, snacks, energy-efficiency games and activities, and
learned about energy efficiency from PSE’s Energy Advisors. To
stretch the campaign budget, the events were staffed by 12 paid staff
and 12 volunteers.
"Be an Energy Rock Star" Contest
Rock the Bulb also used a four-month-long contest to continue customer
engagement. The Be an Energy Rock Star Contest awarded $45,000
in prizes (secured from PSE’s bulb vendor) for customers who
amassed the most points during the promotion period. Customers earned
points by exchanging bulbs and participating in activities at a PSE
Rock the Bulb Tour event; volunteering with Project Porchlight in their
community; reducing their home energy use during the month of October ’09;
and recruiting up to 20 friends to participate. The top 1,000 participants
in the contest reduced their energy usage by an average of 31% and
1,889 contest participants reduced their monthly energy use by 100
kWh or more.
